Day 1
For the record I am fully vaccinated with Moderna and boosted with Moderna. I have never had Covid before.
Second-to-last day of a fantastic week at Moon Palace Cancun, I was suddenly feeling congested and had a tickle in my throat. Felt like a cold coming on. No chest congestion or fever, but I knew it was possible that it was COVID so I went to the COVID testing site when it opened. Test was positive. This is what then transpired from my personal viewpoint.
If you are currently at Moon Palace here is the link to schedule your rapid test. https://form.jotform.com/212026514761852
Note that the first test is free, and if you test positive you will be tested every third day for free (I believe). If you want additional tests they are $19US.
9:30am: I received the swab and was told to wait. About 20-30 mins later I was informed that my test was positive and I was escorted to an isolated seat. I text my family and the friends we’re traveling with so they are aware.
Another 20-30 mins later I was escorted out the back door and through employee corridors until we exited at the front of the Sunrise building. I was put on a golf cart, driven to my building, told to go to my room, pack, and await instructions.I make myself comfortable in the hammock on our balcony. Although I’m not feeling terrible I do feel sick, like I have a head cold. I’m tired and foggy-headed.
12:30pm: My family has all tested negative, THANK GOODNESS. I ask my husband to get me a banana daiquiri and leave it outside the door. 😁 Although I’m technically already in quarantine, I’m not minding sitting on my balcony with ocean views enjoying a frozen drink. Husband, however, has no room to go to. My wristband was not taken away, I am not “locked” in my room. I proceed to self-isolate in my room for 6 hours.
4pm: Moon Palace Cancun staff member picks me up and escorts me to my quarantine room which is a beautiful suite with a huge screen porch on the golf course.
Ordered room service! No alcohol of any kind allowed in the quarantine rooms but I have full access to the room service menu. They warned me that it will take an hour or more to get food once ordered but if that’s all I have to worry about I’m fine with that. Very impressed with how the staff has handled this situation overall.
I will receive a test every day at 11 AM. Once I get a negative test I can fly home the next day apparently. They haven’t asked how I feel or made any kind of medical attention available, that was my only question mark about today’s experience.
TRAVEL TIP: Pack your favorite cold and flu remedies so you have them just in case you get isolated suddenly like I did. Ibuprofen, acetaminophen, decongestant, cough suppressant, lozenges and nasal spray from home will help a lot when you’re in a strange place alone and feeling crummy.
Tonight…a movie and spa bath on my first night of quarantine in Mexico? Yes, please.
You could definitely be in a worse place! Take advantage of the time to renew yourself 💜
ReplyDeleteI seem to have those symptoms naturally periodically but have yet to test positive. Maybe I need to go someplace tropical 🍹 ... If I can do anything to help on this end let me know!
Looking forward to your updates. I am glad you are somewhere nice. Bummer you are positive. 😩. Hang in there.
ReplyDeleteHi Mel, sorry to hear you have Covid. I had it in the end of November, beginning of December and I also had two shots. I hope it all works out for the best. Take care!
