Day 4

Day 4 and I’m laser-focused on figuring out when I’ll be cleared to travel.

If you’ve been reading since Day 1, you’ll remember that when my husband put me on that golf cart to the quarantine housing on Sunday, he told my “handler” that we wanted daily testing. Yesterday nobody came. I suspect that is just because of limited resources, but I don’t know because nobody calls or tells me anything.

This is what I signed when I tested positive:

It says that the “isolation benefit” commits the guest to stay inside the room for 14 days or until a negative test. 😬

However; since this document was prepared, CDC changed their guidelines and the quarantine period was shortened to 5 days on the Palace website: https://www.palaceresorts.com/en/purely-palace. This guidance would have me checking out tomorrow!

But then - just to keep things interesting - the CDC has changed their guidelines again since I’ve been in isolation. The new guidelines seem to suggest 10 days and take a “don’t ask don’t tell” approach to testing.

https://www.cnn.com/2022/01/04/health/cdc-updated-guidance-covid-isolation/index.html

So I’m hoping to talk with an expert today about whether I will test again, or be automatically be released with a “recovery” note on Day 5, or have another 5 days of isolation ahead of me.

Right now I just have no idea.

Feeling thankful for my good health (ironic, I know), this lovely room, and Palace Resorts for food and beverage and the opportunity to quarantine comfortably.

But so ready to be with my family at home.

We came on this vacation with three other couples. Two families went home without issue. One other family has a COVID casualty—an 18 year old boy who is now out here by himself. His mom, my good friend Tracy, has gotten a room at the hotel and will stay as long as he’s quarantined. She rode a cart over here last night to leave some stuff at her son’s door and I got a few treats as well! A custard (which I ate last night), some Pringles (which I’m saving for movie time later) and an amazing cream puff that I enjoyed with my espresso this morning. It’s so nice just to have something DIFFERENT that you can’t get from our regular menu. πŸ™πŸ’•

It’s also just very comforting to have a friend ON THE OUTSIDE. πŸ₯°

TRAVEL TIP:  Bring an extra 10 days’ worth of whatever you need daily. Medicine, vitamins, feminine hygiene, extra clothes. Just in case.

πŸŽ₯ Just did a zoom interview with Amanda Rose from Spectrum News, she was terrific! Hopefully future travelers and the many guests currently at Moon Palace will find the information helpful. As I told her: I have no regrets. We had a great trip and I would do it again. πŸ’•

🚨Update!

I spoke with the doctors office. They said I need to complete five full days of quarantine and then I will receive a note that will permit me to travel back to United States. He confirmed that I would get a visit from the doctor on Thursday, and after that interview I will receive my note — on Thursday afternoon. I have booked a flight home for Friday morning, checking out at 4am and taking a cab to the airport at 4:15am. I will double-mask and avoid human contact. I’ve gotten upgraded to business class. I am taking all of the precautions I can.

It’s so nice just to HAVE A PLAN. Wish me luck!! πŸ˜·πŸ™πŸŽ‰

  1. Glad your staying upbeat. I didn't want to use the other word.

  2. Per the terms of Jack’s incarceration yesterday, they will only test upon request, and regardless of test status, after 5 days you get released with a Dr note saying you quarantined for 5 days. This satisfys the US requirements.

  3. Hi! We're currently quaratining in Moon Palace. We haven't really had a lot of communication, and I'm confused about the quaratine time required? Is it based off Mexico's rules? We tested positive on January 2 by PCR. How did you get to speak to the doctor? Unfortunately we need 14 days before flying back to Canada.

    1. Hi! I’m so sorry! If you dial 5 3481 from your room phone you will reach the medical staff. How are you feeling?

    2. And yes — Your quarantine time is dictated by whatever is required for you to travel home. Please note the screenshot I shared of the document I signed. I know that the palace will cover five days expenses, there is some contradictory information about the rest of your 14 days.

  6. Hello! I am wondering if you had travel insurance, and if so, did you need to file any claims? For example, the new, last minute flight home was probably a chunk of change? Did they cover your $120 visit from the doctor? Thanks so much for sharing!
